Room×Lab Review · Review updated September 29, 2026

Owners love the soft velvet and tidy tailoring, but the deliberately washed finish splits opinion

The retailer aggregate covers 214 unfiltered ratings and can include records excluded from product-specific claims; it is not a qualified-owner count. 170 distinct retailer comments were studied. Owner experience with Crate & Barrel's Relaxed Washed Organic Cotton Velvet 20"x20" throw pillow cover across its colors. The retailer shares one review pool across about two dozen color listings and the with-insert versions. Most comments come from Burnt Green, Cognac and Teal Blue owners and from colors outside this family, such as Deep Brown. Only three brief reviews are for the Ivory cover alone, plus two for Ivory pillows with a feather insert. Softness, build, washing and fit findings concern the shared cover construction, though identical construction across colors isn't confirmed. Color, dye-lot and finish findings are color-specific and don't transfer to Ivory. Feather complaints belong to the with-insert versions. Most reviews are first impressions; one describes multi-year wear, on older production. The pool's aggregate rating covers all colors and configurations.

Room×Lab rating: 7.1 out of 10 (limited confidence). Owners across the color family consistently praise the soft, well-tailored washed cotton velvet. The main caveat is that durability evidence is mostly first impressions, and only three brief reviews cover the Ivory cover itself.

  • Soft, supple washed-velvet hand: Linked records: 66 favorable, 0 critical mentions of the fabric's feel; some are repeat posts by the same authors. — Owners across many colors, including all three Ivory cover-only reviewers, describe the cotton velvet as very soft, pliable and luxurious. Most don't say how long they've used it, and comfort comments may reflect whichever insert each owner chose.
  • Washed, lived-in finish divides owners: Linked records: 8 favorable and 6 critical mentions of the washed look across 12 reviews; two are mixed. — Fans describe a cozy, vintage, lived-in look with depth. Critics saw acid-washed-looking edges, scratch-like wear areas or a more worn look than expected. One fan warns it reads rustic rather than dressy. In several reports it's unclear whether the owner means the intended finish or an actual flaw.
  • Tailoring, seams and hidden zipper: Linked records: 12 favorable on how it is made, 5 general quality remarks and 2 critical construction mentions. — Owners praise the tailoring, stitched edging and hidden zipper, and one Ivory owner calls the case well constructed. One Cognac owner found loose threads at the zipper, and one Chestnut Red with-insert owner reported many fabric imperfections. No linked review reports a seam or zipper failing in use.

Before buying

Consider it for a soft, machine-washable cotton velvet cover with a washed, matte finish if you will buy your own insert; several owners liked a fuller or 22-inch one. Owners of other colors split on relaxed versus worn looks; ivory wear evidence is thin.
