Room×Lab Review · Review updated September 28, 2026
Owners love the Wabi planters' sculptural shape and matte finish, but some found them bigger than expected and two Medium White owners reported cracks
The retailer aggregate covers 93 unfiltered ratings and can include records excluded from product-specific claims; it is not a qualified-owner count. Owner comments come from one Crate & Barrel review list pooling the whole Wabi fiberstone line: sand, white and slate finishes in small, medium and large. The 80 distinct written reviews (May 2022 to April 2026) are labelled Large Sand (8), Small Sand (11), Medium Sand (13), white (26) and slate (22). Most are short 5-star notes on shape, matte texture, neutral color and statement scale, in uses from indoor trees and faux plants to porches, patios, decks and pools. Durability evidence is thin: the longest favorable use report is about six months (Medium Slate), and the chipping, fading and cracking reports come from Small Sand-labelled, Medium White or multi-size purchases. No Large Sand review reports a failure or states how long it was owned. Findings stay attributed to the variant each owner reviewed; the shared list does not show identical construction.
Room×Lab rating: 7.2 out of 10 (limited confidence). Owners across the Wabi line love the sculptural shape, matte finish and statement scale, and no Large Sand owner reports a problem. The main caveat is that durability evidence is short-term: there are isolated chipping and cracking reports on other sizes and finishes, and the frost-resistance claims are untested.
- Shape and matte finish win owners over: Linked records: 22 favorable and 1 critical mention about the shape, matte finish and color. — Owners of every size and finish, including Large Sand buyers, praise the shape, matte texture and color, and several say it matches or beats the photos. Two owners who reported chipping or cracking still praised the look. The only color complaint came from a Medium White owner who repainted it; a Small Slate owner says the surface scuffs easily.
- Bigger in person than several owners expected: Linked records: 11 favorable and 4 critical mentions about size and scale. — One Large Sand owner bought it for a faux 7-ft fig; another found four substantial without dominating at the front of the house. A Medium Sand owner found it right for a 7-ft olive tree. Another returned a Medium Sand, finding scale hard to judge from photos; one owner urges measuring, and a Small Sand-labelled owner found it too wide for a 7-ft olive tree.
- Seen as well made, with two cracking reports: Linked records: 15 favorable and 2 critical mentions about build quality and cracking. — Owners of every finish, including Large and Small Sand, call the planters well made or sturdy, but say nothing about how long they last. Two Medium White reports describe cracking: one within weeks, before anything was planted, and one on two planters after about a year. Neither involves Large Sand; each is one owner's report, not a failure rate.
Before buying
Choose the Wabi Large Sand for its sculptural look and statement scale after measuring for its 24 x 29.5 in size, and treat its outdoor-finish and frost-resistance claims as unproven beyond short-term owner reports.
