Maxine owners praise its storage and bar top, but door sag and flawed deliveries keep recurring
The retailer aggregate covers 225 unfiltered ratings and can include records excluded from product-specific claims; it is not a qualified-owner count. This review covers the Maxine Bar Cabinet family, based on 217 distinct written reviews (2013–2023) pooled from two earlier Maxine listings. Almost all describe the earlier generation on concealed casters. The current model is listed with levelers on the 2026 official page; when the change happened is unknown. That model has its own smaller review set outside this pool. Room×Lab's notes cover 26 of those reviews read from archives, but their text was not kept and none is used for any claim. Mobility and floor findings apply only to the caster generation. Door, hinge, top, finish and storage findings describe shared design features, but whether construction is the same across generations is unverified. One review describes an older black predecessor and is excluded from the claims. The aggregate rating describes this mixed pool only.
Room×Lab rating: 6.9 out of 10 (limited confidence). Owners love the Maxine's compact storage, fold-out bar top and walnut look, but repeated reports of sagging doors, loosening hinges and flawed deliveries hold back durability. Most reviews describe the earlier caster version, so the current leveler model is less documented.
- Storage holds a full bar in a small footprint: Linked records: 22 favorable and 3 critical mentions about storage and interior layout. — Owners praise the stemware racks, wine rack, door shelves and drawer, and several say it holds more than they expected. The few critiques concern glass fit: slots too close for larger glasses, stems clashing with bottles below, and glasses knocking together. No one reported running out of space.
- Door sag and loosening hinges are the repeated complaint: Linked records: 16 critical and 9 favorable mentions about doors, hinges and latches. — Reports run from weeks to about a year: doors sagging under bottles (once despite following loading instructions), hinge or latch screws loosening or spinning free, and doors becoming hard to close. Some critical mentions are precautions (light loading) or doors misaligned on delivery; others report firm doors. These caster-era reports give no failure rate.
- Sturdy for many owners, but inspect the unit at delivery: Linked records: 20 favorable and 12 critical mentions about build quality and condition on arrival. — Many owners call it sturdy and well made. Others received misaligned doors or leaves, stains, finish or hardware flaws, or damage. A few needed two or more replacements; one says all four units received were flawed. The door pattern makes slight misalignment obvious. These are individual accounts, and how common defects are is unknown.
Before buying
Buy the Maxine for compact bar storage and a fold-out serving top, but inspect door and leaf alignment at delivery, keep each door under 30 lb, and know most owner praise describes the earlier caster version.
